What is ProStart to me?

ProStart is a special program for YOU!
    1. Learn about the art of cooking and managing a restaurant from trained professionals and valuable classroom instruction.
    2. Earn college credit while you’re in high school.
    3. Make money! The ProStart program offers paid internships at qualified locations with professionals in your area.
    4. Earn scholarships for college through Alaska CHARR, ProStart, and the National Restaurant Association.
    5. The opportunity to earn the National ProStart Certificate of Achievement.
    6. Put your skills to work! Compete in the Alaska State ProStart Invitational and win the chance to go to the National ProStart competition!
How you can get involved:
    1. Talk with your teacher or counselor. Ask them if they have a ProStart program in place. No program at your school? Talk with us about getting your school involved.
    2. Talk with your teacher about getting employed and get connected with a mentor to help you put your skills to use.
    3. Pass the level 1 and 2 tests, complete a 400 hour work experience, and earn your Certificate of Achievement

Competition

Each year, high school students from ProStart programs around the state battle it out for the number one spot in Alaska, competing in Culinary and Management competitions. The winning teams from each earn the coveted chance to compete in the National ProStart Invitational, held in various cities around the US each year.
